Euroguessr is an independent fan project. By accessing or using the site, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. Service description
Euroguessr (“the Service”) is a free, non-official web game that invites users to identify Eurovision Song Contest entries from short audio excerpts, together with related metadata (title, artist, country, year) and cover art where available. The Service is offered primarily for entertainment, cultural appreciation, and informal educational purposes (music recognition, familiarity with the Eurovision repertoire, and quiz-style practice). It is not a music store, streaming platform, or substitute for purchasing or licensing recordings.
2. No affiliation
The Service is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the Eurovision Song Contest, participating broadcasters, record labels, artists, or rights-management organisations. “Eurovision” and related names used on the site refer descriptively to the contest theme of the quiz only.
3. Intellectual property and audio content
All recordings, compositions, performances, cover artwork, and related rights in the audio excerpts and visual materials displayed on the Service remain the property of their respective rights holders (including, without limitation, artists, producers, publishers, record labels, and collective management organisations). Euroguessr does not claim ownership of any such content.
The operator provides access to brief preview-length clips solely to enable a guessing mechanic: users hear a limited excerpt and attempt to name the corresponding entry. The Service does not offer full-track playback, downloads, or redistribution of complete recordings for commercial exploitation.
References to song titles, artists, countries, and contest years are used for identification and descriptive purposes in the context of a trivia game. Any third-party trademarks or trade names belong to their owners.
4. Source of audio previews (iTunes / Apple)
Where available, preview audio is obtained through public preview URLs associated with entries in
the Apple/iTunes catalogue (typically short AAC preview files served from Apple’s preview infrastructure, e.g.
audio-ssl.itunes.apple.com). The operator does not host those preview files as a primary music
library; the user’s browser streams them from the URL supplied in the game catalogue.
Catalogue metadata and preview links are maintained using the free, publicly documented iTunes Search API (Apple Store web service search API), which is openly accessible and intended for looking up store catalogue information. That API is used only on the server side during catalogue maintenance, not by players during live gameplay. Players receive a static game catalogue; they do not query the iTunes API directly.
Official documentation: iTunes Search API (Apple). Use of that API and of preview URLs is also subject to Apple’s applicable terms and policies.
If a preview is unavailable via Apple’s catalogue, the operator may, in isolated cases, reference an administrator-provided fallback URL for an equally short excerpt, strictly for the same quiz purpose. Rights in such excerpts remain with the respective rights holders.
5. Educational and non-commercial character
The Service is operated as a fan and educational trivia project. It is not presented as an official archive or licensed streaming service. Any future monetisation (e.g. advertising) does not transfer ownership of third-party content to the operator and does not imply authorisation from rights holders unless expressly agreed in writing with those holders.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service to download, rip, record, or redistribute audio or data beyond normal in-browser playback;
- automate access, scrape the catalogue, or overload server or third-party preview endpoints;
- circumvent technical limits, security measures, or rate limits;
- use the Service in violation of applicable law or third-party rights;
- harass other users or post unlawful content in chat or reports.
7. Accounts, guests, and user content
You may play as a guest or with a registered account. You are responsible for activity under your session. Chat messages and reports must be lawful and respectful. The operator may moderate, remove content, or suspend access at its discretion.
8. Copyright and rights complaints (notice & takedown)
The operator respects intellectual property rights. If you believe content accessible through the Service infringes your rights, send a written notice to euroguessr@gmail.com with:
- identification of the work claimed to be infringed;
- identification of the material on the Service (song title, artist, year, and URL/page if possible);
- your contact details and, where applicable, proof of authority to act for the rights holder;
- a statement of good-faith belief that use is not authorised;
- a statement that the information is accurate and, under penalty of perjury where applicable, that you are authorised to submit the notice.
Upon receipt of a valid notice, the operator will review the claim and, where appropriate, remove or disable access to the identified material in the catalogue or disable playback pending investigation. Repeat infringers may be blocked from the Service.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Preview URLs and catalogue entries may become unavailable, incomplete, or inaccurate. The operator does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from use of the Service or reliance on preview content. Total liability for direct damages shall not exceed the amount you paid to use the Service in the twelve months preceding the claim (typically zero for a free service).
11. Changes
These terms may be updated from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when they do. Continued use after publication constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
